The Operation to Recover Garbage from the Bottom of Lake Biwa was held on the shore of Lake Biwa on November 1 under the organization of the Regeneration Project for the lake’s Akanoi Bay, which was launched by the city of Moriyama in Shiga Prefecture, environmental protection groups and those involved in the fishing industry. The technical intern trainees of our cooperative expressed a strong desire to participate in this event at their own volition. A total of 18 of them took part.
The participants engaged in the clean-up by dividing into three teams – a lakeshore garbage recovery team, a garbage cleaning team and a lake bottom garbage recovery team – together with about 300 other participants on the day of this event.
The technical intern trainees were called in front of the other participants and people involved after the end of this work. Two of them gave an address and offered their impressions in Japanese. They received great applause from the participants.
