In April 2022, Mr. Weng Fei, a 35-year-old Chinese national working for the construction company Concrete Pump Co., Ltd. in Kakamigahara City, Gifu Prefecture, became the first person in Japan to obtain the Specified Skilled Worker (ii) status of residence. Qualifying for Specified Skilled Worker (ii) requires a variety of qualifications, including passing the difficult Level 1 Trade Skill Test. According to Vice President Kano , Mr. Weng “surpassed Japanese nationals in excellence and diligence and cleared each” of the requirements one by one. Mr. Weng became the first person to obtain the special status of residence, not only because of his own talent and efforts, but also due to the strong support provided by his employer and the Cooperative of Eco Project in Gifu City, a registered support organization. Mr. Weng said with a smile, “I can invite my family (to Japan). I’m very happy.”
