Consultations with the Myanmar Government Contact Organization

Over the period January 26 to February 1, 2020, a delegation from JITCO engaged in consultations with Myanmar’s Ministry of Labour, Immigration and Population (MOLIP) in Naipyidaw, and with the Myanmar Overseas Employment Agencies Federation (MOEAF) in Yangon. The JITCO delegation also visited a Japanese language school in Mandalay, and sending organizations etc. in Yangon.
In the consultations with MOLIP, JITCO explained the current status of the Specified Skilled Workers program, the current status of the Technical Intern Training program, and the role played by JITCO and related organizations, while MOLIP explained the measures being implemented by Myanmar in relation to the Specified Skilled Workers program and Technical Intern Training program. During the consultations, MOLIP expressed a high level of interest in sending technical intern trainees from Myanmar, with a focus on safeguarding the wellbeing of the Myanmar citizens sent as trainees; MOLIP confirmed that Myanmar’s detailed rules and procedures etc. governing departure from Myanmar and change of visa status while in Japan were currently being implemented on a trial basis.
The JITCO delegation also visited and engaged in consultations with the Myanmar Overseas Employment Agencies Federation (MOEAF). MOEAF expressed its thanks for the visit by JITCO, after which the JITCO delegation gave a presentation that included an overview of the Technical Intern Training program and the current status of the Specified Skilled Workers program. This was followed by an extensive Q&A session and general exchange of information, through which JITCO and MOEAF were able to strengthen their collaborative relationship.
In addition to the above, the JITCO delegation also visited sending organizations, a Japanese language school, the Japan Foundation, the Japanese Embassy in Myanmar, the Mandalay Region Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MRCCI), and the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (UNFCCI). During each visit, an exchange of information took place.
