Meeting Held with Philippine Governmental Agencies

On June 2, 2011, a meeting was held with the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA). Officers representing the higher authorities of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) also attended the meeting.

This was the second meeting since July 1 of last year, when the Philippine governmental agency was shifted to the POEA. JITCO and the POEA exchanged views on the technical intern training program, and as a result of the meeting, signed a record of discussion (R/D).

The R/D was signed by JITCO Senior Vice-President Kensuke Tsuzuki, POEA Administrator Carlos Cao, and OWWA Administrator Carmelita Dimzon.

At the meeting, care for technical intern trainees in Japan was discussed, and the following conclusions were reached. [1] For technical intern trainees dispatched under the direction of POEA, the Philippine Overseas Labor Office of the Philippine Embassy in Tokyo, Japan (POLO-Tokyo) will care for the technical intern trainees in cooperation with POEA and OWWA. [2] For technical intern trainees dispatched under the jurisdiction of TESDA: (1)POLO-Tokyo will parsuade them to become OWWA members. (2)For technical intern trainees who do not become OWWA members, the Philippine Embassy in Tokyo, Japan will provide necessary care as a part of its duties protecting its citizens. Later in the same day, JITCO held a meeting with TESDA. At the meeting, TESDA Deputy Director General for Field Operations Teodoro Pascua spoke on the technical intern trainees dispatched under the jurisdiction of TESDA, and he stated that in the future, TESDA would talk with POEA and OWWA, and they would share information to work for appropriate management.
