A new record of discussion (R/D) was executed with the Department of Labour (DOL) of the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security, the governmental contact for Myanmar, on May 20, 2013.
In response to the amendment of the Immigration Control and Refugee Recognition Act in July 2010, JITCO urged a revision of the R/D. In September 2010, the Myanmar government provided notice that it had cancelled the accreditations of all accredited sending organizations, and subsequently, sending of technical intern trainees from Myanmar was temporarily suspended.
More recently, against a backdrop of democratization in Myanmar, the relationship between Japan and Myanmar rapidly developed and JITCO requested reestablishment of the sending structures. Following determined deliberations with the Myanmar side, a new R/D was recently executed.
It is expected that the Myanmar governmental contact will establish sending structures in stages, and up-to-date information will be posted on the JITCO website.
