Japanese Speech Contest for Trainees in Fukuoka

October 2009
The Shindenkyo Cooperative Society

On October 11, a regional competition of the All-Japan International Trainees Speech Contest was held in Fukuoka.  Being on the steering committee, the cooperative representatives assisted the organizer, the National Business Support Combined Cooperative.  More than 30 companies from five cooperatives participated in this event.  Three trainees took part from our cooperative.  More than 150 enthusiastic attendees filled the venue with excitement!

For three minutes, each of the 14 contestants took the podium to present their original topics.  Speaking confidently, no contestants looked down to read their scripts.  The quality of the presentations was so high that judges took a very long time to decide on the winners.

After the contest, participants moved to a different venue for an exchange party.  In contrast with the serious mood in the competition, trainees enjoyed the relaxing time while eating and speaking with company staff and cooperative employees, as well as other trainees who they had not see for a long time.

Trainees who did not enter the competition this time were inspired by those on stage.  They were expressing their motivation to study Japanese harder, saying, "I will make a speech next time!"
