Vietnamese Cooking School

August 2007
Kanuma Metals Engineering Cooperative

On August 26th, the Kanuma City International Exchange Association held a cooking class to study Vietnamese cuisine. The instructors were two technical interns from Viet Nam, with the 20 participants consisting of elementary school students and their parents. They attempted to make Vietnamese Pho and fresh spring rolls. Other trainees joined in to provide support and the crowded classroom was full of activity.

The soup was made from chicken and pork with spices direct from Viet Nam. Vegetables and cooked shrimp and meats were wrapped up in moistened rice paper sheets then dipped in nuoc mam, a soy sauce from Viet Nam. Then it was time to eat. It was so delicious!

The event was held on the last Sunday of the elementary school's summer break. While they were eating, the children learned various Vietnamese greetings and they listened to the technical intern's stories about the national flag, weather and culture of Viet Nam.

The technical interns taught enthusiastically, hoping to develop an understanding and an appreciation of their culture with the children.

We plan to create more opportunities for international exchange. The next event will be the World Festival in November this year.
