
On September 10, 2009, JITCO officials had an annual meeting with Mr. Pakorn Amornchewin, Deputy Director-General of Department of Employment (DOE), Ministry of Labour of Thailand.
JITCO explained an outline of the revised Immigration Act, including the introduction of status of residence "technical intern training", improvement on working conditions, and enhanced supervision on accepting organizations' activities along with their increased responsibilities. JITCO assured DOE that routine visits by JITCO's local office staff to training venues and cooperation with the Thai Embassy in Tokyo would be further addressed.
DOE appreciated the improvement of trainee's condition, and hoped that the number of trainees would increase. DOE inquired on procedures during the transition to the enforcement of the revised Immigration Act.
Prior to the annual meeting, JITCO officials visited Vice Minister of Labor Yuph Nana. Mr. Yuph expressed his view on adding more trainees especially in the field of agriculture. The vice minister mentioned that the Ministry of Agriculture had considered the idea of utilizing the training scheme by providing land to returnees while the Ministry of Labor would recruit and select candidates.
On the same day, a seminar for sending organizations was held with participation of about 50 persons from 18 sending organizations. JITCO provided an overview of the revised training program, and explained on labor conditions for technical interns.
