
On May 30, 2010, JITCO officials have visited Governmental organization of Sri Lanka, Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE),Ministry of External Affairs(MOFA). Courtesy call was made on vice minister MOFA Gunawardena (acting external minister), and annual meeting with deputy secretary Jayasinghe was held. Ranawaka, the chairman of SLBFE, has also attended courtesy call made on vice minister.
At annual meeting, JITCO explained that the condition of trainees will improve because labor-related laws will be applicable from the first year of immigration due to the revised immigration control act that had became effective from July. Also, thinking of SLBFE came under the jurisdiction of MOFA due to the cabinet reshuffle and the ministries and government offices reorganization in Sri Lanka, we explained about current condition and movement, and the main problems and its solutions of acceptance.
Sri Lanka stated that they wish to increase the number of dispatch, especially in the field of high technology, and talking about the new program's detail, SLBFE and JITCO should discuss well to bring it forward.
After the meeting, courtesy call was made on vice minister. JITCO reported on the new program and the acceptance situation. Vice minister stated that he is expecting the number of sending to increase more under the new program. He also stated that both Japan and Sri Lanka need to be more cooperative for further development of the program.
On the same day, the seminar for sending organizations was held. Under the cooperation between SLBFE, 15 guests from the accredited sending organizations participated the seminar. JITCO gave explanations about the outline of the newly revised Technical Intern Training Program and the prohibition on collection of Deposits from technical intern trainees. There were some questions from sending organizations concerning management expenses for sending technical intern trainee and admission fee, and the advance lectures offered by the sending organizations.
