Meeting with the Contact Officials of the Government of Nepal and Seminar with Sending Organizations

February 2011

On February 24, 2011, JITCO officials visited the Ministry of Labor and Transport Management (MOLTM) of Nepal, and held a periodic meeting with the Permanent Secretary Dinesh Hari Adhikari.

MOLTM indicated concern that growth in the number of sending organizations was sluggish and explained revisions to guidelines in order to smooth the sending process. MOLTM also expressed hope that the seminar being held for sending organizations would further understanding from the related organizations about the Technical Intern Trainee Program.

JITCO identified the following as reasons for the poor sending results: insufficient understanding of the Technical Intern Trainee Program by the 171 organizations accredited in 2009 and lack of preparation from the sending programs, such as the lack of a Japanese language education program. Furthermore, JITCO noted that it is essential for trainees to use their technical skills after returning to their countries and expressed a need for foundations to transfer these technical skills.

The same day, JITCO held a seminar for sending organizations, which was attended by 76 sending organizations from Nepal.
After greetings from Permanent Secretary Adhikari and Deputy Secretary Bhattari, JITCO gave an overview of the Technical Intern Trainee Program and explained the roles and procedures provided by the sending organizations, while an introductory video about the Technical Intern Trainee Program was played to encourage understanding.
