
On February 2, 2010, JITCO officials visited the Ministry of Labor and Transport Management (MOLTM) of Nepal, and held an annual meeting with the Secretary Babu Ram Acharya.
MOLTM reported that 171 employment agencies were newly accredited as sending organizations, in addition to the Federation of Nepalese Chamber of Commerce Federation to make the total number of sending organizations to 172. MOLTM informed JITCO that guidelines were set to clarify roles for related entities, including the Nepalese Embassy in Tokyo and the monitoring committee. MOTLM expressed interest in holding workshops in Japan in order to encourage more dispatch from Nepal.
JITCO suggested to revise the present Record of Discussion (R/D), which was signed between JITCO and MOLTM in 2003 to ensure a cooperative relationship between them, as subject of dispatch will be technical interns from trainees because of revisions to the technical internship program. In response, MOLTM requested that their Department of Foreign Employment be specified as implementation authority. A revised R/D was signed by between JITCO and MOLTM.
Prior to the annual meeting, JITCO paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Labour and Transport Management Mohamad Aftab Alam. Minister Alam expressed his expectation for an increase in the number of trainees sent to Japan after having accredited new sending organizations and set new guidelines for them.
On February 3, MOLTM organized a seminar for related officials from 171 Nepalese sending organizations. Minister Alam and Japanese Ambassador in Nepal Tatsuo Mizuno provided opening remarks along with other extinguished guests. JITCO explained an outline of the revised program and stressed the roles of sending organizations as defined in the latest model of the technical internship agreement, and "A Guideline on Managing Technical Interns' Entry and Status of Residence" complied by the Japanese Ministry of Justice, as well as key points on technical interns' labour management.
