Annual Meeting and Seminar in Mongolia

August, 2009

On August 25, JITCO officials held an annual consultation meeting with the Ministry of Social Welfare and Labor (MSWL) of Mongolia.

MSWL informed JITCO that a new labor bill for accepting and sending workers internationally was to be proposed at the congress this fall in order to improve their trainee-sending system.

JITCO provided an overview on the newly revised training program, and discussed the impact from the recent financial crisis.  JITCO explained that, by the introduction of the status of residence "Technical Intern", their status is going to be technical intern instead of trainee from the first year.  Since Labour-related laws are applied to the interns and salary is paid based on a labour contract after two months of initial group training, their treatment is expected to be improved under the revised program.  As for the impact from the financial crisis, JITCO explained that countermeasures were taken against the affected accepting situation with employment adjustment underway.

On August 26, JITCO held a seminar for sending organizations.  Representatives from the MSWL and 11 sending organizations attended the seminar.

JITCO provided an overview on the revised training program, followed by a Q&A session.  JITCO fielded inquiries from the participants on insurance procedures, support during the early stage of the new training program, residence tax and social security fees.
