On October 12, 2009, JITCO officials made a formal visit to the Vice Minister of Laotian Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare (MLS).
JITCO reported to the Vice Minister that the number of Laotian trainees sent to Japan had increased steadily despite the fact that the recent financial crisis had caused the overall number of trainees from other nations to drop. The Vice Minister commented that he intended to send even more trainees in the future for the development of the country, and had been preparing for private sectors to be accredited as sending organizations.
After the visit to the Vice Minister, JITCO held a meeting with officials from MLS. The Laotian contact personnel explained that pre-dispatch training had been conducted for new trainees to facilitate smooth communication in Japan. As the Vice Minister mentioned, MLS informed JITCO that the government intended to delegate the domestic operation of the training program to private sectors, and MLS would concentrate on supervising these organizations to maintain proper operation of the training program. JITCO welcomed the functional changes, and proposed to organize a seminar for sending organizations in the next visit. The Laotian appreciated the offer and forwarded the plan.
