Technical Skills Acquisition Support for Technical Interns

Promoting Learned Skills Evaluation

1. Purpose

The purpose of the technical internship program is to contribute to developing countries through the transfer of skills and techniques, thereby strengthening the economic and industrial development in those countries. Workers will acquire skills, techniques and knowledge in a practical, business-like context by entering the program, which also aims to be character building.

In order to maximize the program's effectiveness, it is essential that the evaluation of learned skills be emphasized.  When entering the technical internship program, interns are only required to take Grade Two (Basic) on the National Trade Skills Test.  However, taking Grade One (Basic) or a more advanced examination would result in a more comprehensive inventory of interns' aptitudes.

JITCO awards financial incentives to encourage accepting organizations and technical interns to actively challenge themselves to take the Grade One (Basic) National Trade Skills Test or above.

2. Examinations Eligible for Incentives and Amounts

Individuals who have passed selected examinations will receive financial incentives. The examinations and the amount of the incentives are listed below.

Examination Name Amount
a. National Trade Skills Test Grade One (Basic), or the JITCO Evaluation System (Intermediate) 10,000 yen
b.National Trade Skills Test Grade Three (Provisional), or the JITCO Evaluation System: Specialist 20,000 yen
c.National Trade Skills Test Grade Two (Provisional) or above 30,000 yen

3. Criteria for Incentives

To receive financial incentives, the following requirements must be met:

  • The affiliated accepting organization is a supporting member of JITCO.
  • The intention to take the examination has been registered at a local JITCO office prior to its commencement.
  • Proof is provided that it is the intern's first attempt at the examination.
  • For the SPT Grade One (Basic) and the JITCO Evaluation System (Intermediate), the intern must have passed these examinations in their first year on the program.
  • Technical interns have a deposit account in their own name.
  1. In particular, a technical intern needs to pass the first foundation level of the technical examination or examination equivalent to the intermediate level of the evaluation system approved by JITCO in the first year of technical internship.
  • A technical intern has a deposit account in his/her own name.
